Strategic acquisition expands specialist expertise
Shackleton has acquired Parallel Financial, a London-based financial advice firm with a highly regarded reputation among clients in the creative, media, arts, film, television and technology sectors.
The transaction, brokered by Gunner & Co., adds approximately £360m in assets under advice / management, 12 team members, and four advisers to the Shackleton group. In addition, it strengthens Shackleton’s presence in London as part of its ongoing nationwide expansion strategy.
A specialist business with a differentiated proposition
Founded by Malcolm Lyons, Parallel has built a successful business serving professionals and business owners operating within the UK’s creative and media industries.
The acquisition enhances Shackleton’s specialist capabilities while providing Parallel’s clients and team with access to a broader national platform. Paul Feeney, CEO of Shackleton, commented:
“We have been able to attract Malcolm and the talented team at Parallel to Shackleton. This acquisition positions us exceptionally well to serve the specific needs of clients in fields such as the media and performing arts.”
His comments reflect the strategic importance of Parallel’s expertise and the growing demand for specialist financial planning services.
Shared values drive successful outcomes
Cultural alignment was a key factor throughout the process. Malcolm Lyons, Founder and Managing Director of Parallel, said:
“I’m thrilled to have found in Shackleton a firm that truly shares and understands the values that are so fundamental to everything we have built.” He added that after an extensive search for a partner firm, joining Shackleton would be “an overwhelmingly positive development” for both clients and colleagues.
This strong alignment between buyer and seller helped create a transaction focused on continuity, long-term growth, and positive outcomes for all stakeholders.
Gunner & Co. perspective
Louise Jeffreys, Managing Director at Gunner & Co., said:
“Parallel has built an exceptional business with a highly differentiated proposition and deep expertise within the creative and media sectors. From the outset, it was clear that Shackleton recognised the value of what Malcolm and his team had created.
The cultural alignment between the two firms was evident throughout the process. Both businesses share a commitment to high-quality advice, strong client relationships, and long-term thinking. We are delighted to have supported both parties in completing a transaction that provides an excellent outcome for clients, employees, and the future growth of the business.”
Supporting the next phase of growth
The acquisition further strengthens Shackleton’s position as a growing national advice business while expanding its expertise in specialist client markets. For Parallel, the transaction provides additional scale, infrastructure, and resources while preserving the values and client-focused approach that have driven its success.
The deal also demonstrates the continued demand for high-quality financial planning firms with clear specialisms, strong client relationships, and differentiated market positions.
