MWA Financial has completed the acquisition of Hawthorn Financial Services, a Wiltshire-based firm, strengthening its regional presence and accelerating its UK growth strategy. The MWA Financial acquisition adds £26m in assets under advice and more than 70 family units to the group.

Supporting National Growth Ambitions

Following the acquisition, MWA Financial now serves nearly 2,500 clients across multiple UK locations. It oversees approximately £950m in assets under advice and employs more than 50 staff.

As a result, the MWA Financial acquisition supports the firm’s ambition to build a national advice and planning business. It also strengthens its scale, broadens its reach, and enhances its ability to deliver consistent client outcomes across regions.

In addition, the transaction reflects a wider trend in the UK advice market, where firms continue to pursue scale, operational efficiency, and deeper client relationships through consolidation.

Expanding Through Strategic Acquisition

Cam Banks, Chief Executive of MWA Financial, emphasised the strategic value of the transaction. He highlighted the strong alignment between the two firms, particularly in their shared focus on long-term client outcomes and high service standards.

Hawthorn Financial Services brings a loyal and well-established client base. Therefore, the acquisition strengthens MWA Financial’s position in the Midlands while reinforcing its commitment to high-quality advice.

MWA Financial founded the business in 2016 with a focus on holistic financial planning. Since then, it has continued to grow through targeted acquisitions that align with its long-term strategy.

Leadership Integration and Client Continuity

As part of the deal, Hawthorn founder Derek Avenell joins MWA Financial as an adviser with immediate effect. This ensures continuity for clients and supports a smooth transition into the wider group.

In addition, Avenell welcomed the move and recognised MWA’s approach to the advice market. He also noted the opportunity to enhance client outcomes through broader resources, shared expertise, and a more scalable platform.

Overall, the MWA Financial acquisition highlights the firm’s continued momentum as it builds a national presence and strengthens its position within the evolving UK wealth management landscape.
