MWA Financial has acquired Stonewood Financial Planning Ltd, extending its national footprint and strengthening its Midlands presence. The deal brings £53 million in assets under advice (AUA) and includes Stonewood’s office in Market Harborough. It also adds a loyal client base of over 100 family units to MWA’s network.

Integration of Team and Clients

Stonewood’s advisers and staff will join MWA, and clients will integrate into MWA Financial Advice. This approach ensures continuity for existing clients while allowing MWA to benefit from Stonewood’s expertise in the Midlands.

Support from Investors

Frontier Development Capital (FDC) and Coniston Capital supported the acquisition. Their investment in MWA in 2023 provided the funding needed to pursue this and future acquisitions.

Leadership and Strategy

Founded in 2016 by Cam Banks, MWA Financial was built around a holistic planning approach. Banks said: “Stonewood is everything we look for in an acquisition: a high-quality and loyal client base, a strong cultural fit and an office location we can grow from. We are thrilled to welcome their team and clients into MWA and excited about Market Harborough as a hub for our Midlands expansion.”

Executive chair Ed Rosengarten, who joined MWA in 2021, added: “Our succession planning approach continues to appeal to advice firms seeking a long-term home for clients and staff. The acquisition of Stonewood shows this strategy in action. It further strengthens our presence in the Midlands as we pursue our long-term growth plans.”

Current Scale and Growth

After acquiring Stonewood, MWA Financial now manages approximately £900 million in assets under advice. The firm has over 50 staff supporting 2,250 clients across multiple UK locations. This expansion reflects MWA’s commitment to providing high-quality financial advice nationwide.
