Schroders has reported record assets under management (AUM) of £867.8bn. Growth was supported by stronger markets and continued demand for its investment capabilities.

The firm’s half-year results showed adjusted operating profit increased by 46% year-on-year to £459.8m. Schroders said its plans to return to “sustainable, profitable growth” were progressing well.

The business has delivered 98% of its planned £150m annualised cost savings. This includes the recent sale of its financial advice business Benchmark to Söderberg & Partners.

Strategic changes support future growth

As part of its wider strategy, Schroders has continued to review its business structure. This included the sale of Benchmark, allowing the firm to focus further on its core investment activities.

The move reflects a wider focus across financial services. Many firms are reviewing their structures and concentrating resources on areas where they can create long-term value.

For financial planning business owners, activity among larger firms demonstrates how the market continues to evolve. These changes highlight the importance of having a clear strategy for future growth and succession.

Expansion plans and client demand

Schroders also reported positive momentum from clients. Gross inflows increased to £69.3bn during the first half of the year, compared with £68.2bn during the same period in 2025.

The firm said this growth was supported by strong client demand for its active investment capabilities.

Richard Oldfield, group chief executive of Schroders, said the business had seen strong sales and positive client sentiment towards its planned combination with US-based asset manager Nuveen.

Shareholders approved 99% of the proposed deal. The combination is expected to complete in the fourth quarter of the year.

Schroders said the transaction will provide further opportunities for future growth.

What this means for financial planning business owners

The continued activity from major financial services firms highlights the importance of strategic planning across the sector.

While Schroders operates in global asset management, several themes are also relevant to financial planning businesses. These include efficiency, scale and long-term sustainability.

For owners considering their own future plans, understanding how the market is changing can help inform important decisions.

Succession planning requires careful preparation. Owners need to consider their objectives, their clients’ future and the values that have helped build their business.

A successful transition involves more than identifying a buyer. It requires understanding the available options and selecting the approach that best fits the future of the business.
