Shackleton has acquired London-based financial advice firm Parallel Financial in a transaction brokered by Gunner & Co. The deal adds £360m in assets under advice / management and further strengthens Shackleton’s presence in the capital.
The acquisition also enhances Shackleton’s specialist expertise in advising clients across the creative, media, arts, film, television, and technology sectors. Parallel has built a strong reputation and deep experience within these industries.
As consolidation across the financial planning market continues, the transaction highlights the increasing value buyers place on specialist propositions, differentiated client niches, and strong cultural alignment.
Shackleton expands specialist capabilities through acquisition
Parallel Financial has developed a strong reputation advising professionals and business owners within the creative industries. These clients often require highly tailored financial planning. Complex income structures, international earnings, and changing career patterns create unique challenges.
As a result, the acquisition broadens Shackleton’s specialist capabilities and strengthens its position within an attractive client segment. It also adds 12 team members, including four advisers, to the group.
Paul Feeney, CEO of Shackleton, said:
“I’m absolutely delighted that we have been able to attract founder Malcolm Lyons and the whole talented team at Parallel to Shackleton. Our country has long been recognised as a global leader in the creative industries. As Britain’s financial adviser, this acquisition positions us exceptionally well to serve the specific needs of clients in fields such as the media and performing arts.”
Cultural alignment remains a key driver
Alongside strategic benefits, the acquisition highlights the importance of cultural alignment in financial planning transactions. Malcolm Lyons, Founder and Managing Director of Parallel, conducted an extensive search before selecting Shackleton as the right long-term partner.
He commented:
“I’m thrilled to have found in Shackleton a firm that truly shares and understands the values that are so fundamental to everything we have built. Joining Shackleton will be an overwhelmingly positive development for our clients and colleagues.”
His comments reflect a growing trend across the market. More business owners now prioritise client continuity, cultural fit, and long-term stability alongside valuation.
Specialist firms continue to attract buyer interest
The transaction highlights strong demand for firms that offer specialist expertise and clearly defined client propositions. While scale remains important, buyers also seek businesses that add sector expertise, specialist capabilities, and differentiated client relationships.
For many acquisitive firms, specialist knowledge creates a clear route to accelerate growth and strengthen competitive positioning.
What this means for business owners
For business owners considering succession or a future sale, this transaction demonstrates the value of a clear market proposition and strong client relationships. Businesses that clearly articulate their expertise, client niche, and long-term value proposition often attract stronger buyer interest.
At Gunner & Co., we continue to see strong demand for high-quality financial planning firms, particularly those with specialist capabilities and loyal client bases.
